At Slice Of The Moon Books, we celebrate all that is macabre, strange and uncomfortable. We champion the curious, peculiar and magical, the outcasts, eccentrics and moon-gazers, and we do this by publishing books that magic through boundaries and explore that which is hidden away. We started with UTBURD and now we're really excited to be accepting submissions for two anthologies to be published in 2019.
The first, ALL BLACK EVERYTHING will be a collection of writings on the subject of wearing black. We want this book to be a thorough, fascinating and eclectic insight into peoples' lives with the colour black. If you're interested in submitting, we would love to read and consider personal essays, poetry and creative non-fiction.
The second, MAIDEN MOTHER CRONE will comprise of writings on the subject of witchcraft and honouring the Maiden/Mother/Crone figures. We're looking for creative non-fiction, personal essays and poetry. The aim of this book will be to celebrate the lives that are weaved with witchcraft and to also and intrigue and invoke people to explore their own connection to the occult.
We've rounded up a selection of inspirational writings on both themes to get your creative juices flowing.

The idea for Slice Of The Moon Books was first born nearly ten years ago, when I was studying creative writing at university, but it's taken up until now for it to really become something. I want to delve into where everything started, and talk about how SOTMB was something always tapping at my consciousnesses asking 'is it time yet?' but in another post. Today I want to talk about our first book, UTBURD which evolved from a one page poem into an illustrated short story.
If I can remember right, UTBURD (which was originally called That Which Is Taken Outside) was written in 2013 when much of my writing was inspired by tales from Scandinavian folklore. It then shape shifted into a short story which was supposed to be published in an anthology of folkloric tales...but the subject matter turned out to be a bit too 'frightening.
UTBURD kept quiet for a few years, while I worked on other things, but then I encountered the artwork of Italy born, Sweden based artist Alessia Brusco AKS Skogens Rymd. For weeks I wasn't able to stop thinking about her art and I found myself realizing that if anyone was going to help me help UTBURD to breathe as a short story, it would be her. Thankfully, she agreed to a collaboration, and here we are, a few months later, ready to release our short story to anyone bold enough to read it. If your curiosity is screaming for more, you can watch the promotional video down below.
P.S. If you like the music, you can get more unsettling sounds more here.
P.P.S. I actually interviewed Alessia Brusco about her art, and you can find the interview here.
